Qingping Motion and Light Sensor T w/ Thread (video)

At the time of this video, the Qingping Motion & Light Sensor T is only one of two motion sensors that are Thread-enabled, with the other product being the Eve Motion. Whilst both are Thread-enabled, only the Eve is also currently Matter compatible, although if you’re on a budget, the 50% difference in price the Qingping offers may be enough for HomeKit users, which also offers better mounting options.

In this video we compared the reaction speed of the Qingping to the Eve Motion, the Hue Motion Sensor, and even an old Zigbee sensor from Mijia. When it comes to ambient light sensor tests, we put it up against the aforementioned devices from Eve and Hue, as well as a dedicated Mijia Ambient Light Sensor. Watch the video to see how it fared…

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

The Aqara FP2 is the successor to Aqara’s first attempt at a super accurate presence sensor, namely the FP1. Unfortunately, at least from my perspective, this didn’t hit the mark. However, when it comes to the FP2, this really does deserve the accolade of ‘GAME CHANGER’. This is due to a few major improvements – multiple zones, faster response times, and far more accuracy, not to mention a light sensor also exposed to HomeKit.

The multiple zones are possibly the most important one, as you can split up the FP2’s coverage area into separate zones, each of which is exposed to HomeKit as individual sensors. Watch the video to see me put it through its paces.

Qingping Temperature and Humidity Sensor (with Thread)

The QingPing Temperature & RH (Relative Humidity) Monitor has been my favourite temperature sensor for a long time now. Being able to see details for these two metrics without having to consult Siri or my iPhone is exactly what I need, but with smart functionality. and a clear, E-ink display too. Now the company have finally taken the leap to Thread, to make the best even better, with more reliable connectivity than before, but with the same great design. LifeSmart mmWave Human Presence Sensor

Motion sensors are a staple product when it comes to a smart home, and whilst they’re great, you only have to be sitting still for a minute or so, and as far as they’re concerned, you’re not there. Not so with today’s product, the LifeSmart Human Presence Sensor, which not only knows you’re there, even if you’re asleep, but it can (for the most part) determine if a human is the source of motion, as opposed to your pet! How cool is that?

The LifeSmart Human Presence Sensor is a little hard to find right now, but the company has said it’s planning to sell it further afield than China, and also possibly sell it via AliExpress. In the meantime, you can check out their website to see just how many HomeKit-compatible devices they make, or check out the Human Presence Sensor directly.

QingPing Air Monitor Lite

Today’s video is for the QingPing Air Monitor Lite, which detects both PM2.5 and PM10, as well as temperature and humidity, but it’s also one of the few devices to measure C0² or Carbon Dioxide. We breathe out C0², but C0² can easily build up in confined spaces over a period of time and can lead to some less than ideal side effects. Most of these in almost all cases aren’t life-threatening, but at a minimum, can lead to difficulty in concentration, mild headaches, and general fuzziness, for want of a better description.
